Rent "Layer Cake" and you will see why they picked him, and why he will be the best Bond in a looong time. Even Connery was enthusiastic about the choice.
Hammer: I did see Layer Cake. British gangster film (Sexy Beast et al), and I there. I agree that he has the rugged aspect that Connery carried that should make for a good Bond.
Phil: I could never get into any of the Roger Moore Bond's...or Timothy Dalton, or George Lazenby, etc. For me, the only true Bond is Connery, but I am looking forward to this new flick.
Freckled: I saw Layer Cake on Labor Day weekend. I thought the theatre would be totally empty. It was just the opposite. People know good when they see it.
I-66: Newman. Alfred E. Newman.
Jamy: I don't know what triggered this, but once I started seeing him this way, I couldn't shake it.
Playful: The ears yes, but also that space between the nose and the mouth. Both are highly defined.
I think it's the stupidity of the gun. The resemblance between the two is striking, but even AEN wasn't stupid enough to think a gun was the solution to anything.
I thought Brosnan was a good Bond. This guy looks rougher and I have high hopes. What is the Best Bond Movie by the way? Is it Dr. No? I always liked The Spy Who Loved Me, even though it was Roger Moore.
i havent seen layer cake (but it is in my netflix queue!). i've heard good things about casino royale so i'll give craig a shot. although i think the blond hair is what is throwing me off.
I dunno, I haven't spoken to anyone yet who didn't like the film. No Bond film will ever surpass GOldfinger, but we'll see what they come up with over the years.

I agree hammer.
This is the first Bond movie in a long, long time that I am actually looking forward to seeing (maybe since "Moonraker").
Layer Cake was great, but I like him in "The Mother." Your man is SEXY.
As long as it has more success than MadTV they'll be straight.
I'm with you, Cube. I saw him on the cover of Entertainment Weekly and had EXACTLY the same thought.
Must be the slope of the upper earlobe area.

He's supposed to be great. I love James Bond!
As long as the accent is british (check) and sexy (check), he can look like Newman. I'm cool with that.
That's hilarious. Can't wait to see the movie. I actually think he will surpass most all of the Connery successors.

I loved "Jaws" though..

I have nothing to add. Just saying hi and glad you are posting.
I wasn't sure until I saw him and his hot bod dripping as he walked out of the ocean in the trailor tonight when I saw Borat. It made me tingly.
Craig can do sexy. But only when he's not playing himself.
